Well, Miss Karis is becoming more and more mobile. She can get up on all fours and rock. She rolls all over the floor. We have to be careful with the recliner because she rolled under it more than once. Karis also is starting to purposely to go places. She gets so frustrated when on all fours because she knows what to do with her legs, but can't figure out how to move her arms. She is trying to push herself up into a sitting position too. She can get onto her butt. She just hasn't pushed herself up all the way. She balances herself with one arm. She will also grab onto something and stand if you set her in the right place. The other funny thing she is doing physically is instead of being on her hands and knees she gets on her hands and feet. It looks like she is trying to stand up.
Karis is going through what we hope is a phase of not sleeping. Until a week or two ago, Karis was really good about relaxing and then we could put her down in the cradle to sleep. She would usually end up in bed with us for part of the night when she wanted to eat, so I could get some sleep. Lately, though, Karis doesn't want to sleep. She screams when we sit in the rocker with her. She doesn't want to be in the swing. She just wants to be nursed to sleep. She screams when you put her in the cradle too. We tried to let her cry it out the other night, but that didn't work. She just got more and more upset and more and more angry. This went on for over an hour. She will purposely not let herself settle when she is tired unless she is up against mommy and nursing. I also noticed that she is willing to sleep if I hold her pacifier against me and snuggle her next to me. She will go to sleep then too. If BJ tries though, she screams. I hope this is a phase because I don't like being clung to all night long. Last night was like something out of a sitcom. I would band to lay her in the cradle and she would scream before she even hit the matress, if I started to straighten up she would get quiet. She's starting to catch on I think.
Day care is having a hard time getting her to sleep too. She hasn't taken a morning nap in days because she wants to be on the floor playing with the older kids. She has already taken some the their toys from them. Day care says she just plays and plays until she crashes right after her lunch of cereal and a bottle. She'll sleep for a couple hours most of the time.
Today she wouldn't go down for a nap at all, but whenever she wanted to nurse she would crash. I'd lay her down the in crib, and she would sleep for about twenty minutes to half and hour, but that was it. BJ got her to take a short nap in the swing while I was working outside, but as soon as I came in and sat down she must had heard me talking because her eyes popped open and she started crying.
Last night we had a meal at the kitchen table and Karis joined us. We wanted to use the high chair, but we found out the that latch was busted. I'm hoping I can find a replacement because it is just such a beautiful wooden chair. We did get it second hand from one of my friends. It looks like a lot of those clasps you can find at fabric stores, so hopefully I can figure something out, until then Karis will have to sit in her Bumbo.
Karis is in love with the dogs. She loves to grab at them. Squeakers won't get out of her way, and often ends up being chewed on. Duncan doesn't want her to touch him at all. We always watch them closely. Karis finds Duncan absolutely fascinating, but Duncan doesn't like her at all. He'll bark if he thinks she's staring at him for too long. I think Duncan is jealous, and Squeak doesn't really care who or how as along as he gets attention.
The sleeping thing is the most challenging part of being Karis' Mom and Dad right now. Overall she is a wonderful, smart, and happy little girl.
